EL PASO, TX (KDBC) — The trial for an El Paso police officer accused of seriously injuring a man in a shooting has been set.
Jorge Gonzalez was scheduled to face charges of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury on August 23.
Gonzales was indicted two years ago after allegedly shooting 20-year-old Andres Cortez in the neck after a car crash.
Police said Cortez rear-ended Gonzalez's SUV back in April 2010. Gonzalez and another off-duty female officer got out of the suv and that's when police say Cortez tried to flee from the scene.
Cortez allegedly stuck the female officer, pinning her under his car. Police say gonzalez fired when police say it looked like Cortez was going to hit the female officer again.
