EL PASO, TX (KTSM) — It's being described by police as an unusual crime and something that doesn't typically happen in El Paso but a sexual predator has burglarizing homes and assaulting women in the Manhattan Heights District, according to police. A new description of the suspect was released Tuesday.
Initially, police said it was reported that the suspect had tattoos on his neck. At this time investigators do not believe that is correct. He is believed to be a Hispanic male in his 30’s with medium to light medium complexion, between 5’8” and 5’ 10” tall. He is clean shaven, short/shaven hair but not bald, crooked front teeth and tattoos on the upper and lower portions of his arms. The tattoo on his left arm is described as having some color. He is also believed to have a tattoo on his left lower leg. The suspect may have scratches to his face and neck area from one of his attacks.
Police said three women have been assaulted and the predator in a failed attempt tried to assault a fourth woman.
"They've all been during the night," said El Paso Police Sgt. Chris Mears.
"It's nerve racking and it's definitely disconcerting," said area resident Cathy Gonzalez.
Gonzalez has lived in the Manhattan Heights Neighborhood for 16 years and typically walks the neighborhood with her kids later in the evening but now her husband suggested they take their evening stroll earlier in the afternoon.
"We heard about the attacks and assaults that have been going on in our neighborhood so we decided to take our walks a little earlier before it got dark," she said.
Police are advising residents to not answer their doors for somebody they don't know and are also asking residents to report any strange activity.
Mears said they have several detectives on the case and are working on putting together a composite sketch of the suspect.
