Las Cruces, NM (KDBC) — Las Cruces City Council will consider extending an extreme drought proclamation which restricts the use of certain fireworks.
Council had already approved the proclamation earlier this month, but it expires July 3rd.
New Mexico state law allows municipalities to issue such declarations for only 30 days, so council must vote again in order to continue the ban on aerial type fireworks within city limits.
The fire marshal said the area needs about 4 inches of rain, which the city has not seen, in order for all types of fireworks could be safely used.
Las Cruces City Council meets Monday at 1 p.m. inside of City Hall.
