El Paso, TX (KDBC) — El Pasoans filled the streets downtown on Friday evening to enjoy a popular annual street festival that will welcome big name bands like "Bush" and "Third Eye Blind."
"Bush is going to be a great show. You don't get this very often so I'm very pleased that they decided to bring Bush," said Nohemi Salas.
"I came out because Bush has been my favorite band for 15-20 years," said Sarah Logue.
"Just having some of these big names out here will maybe draw some more attention out here to El Paso," said Raul Bustamante.
Saturday's big act will be Third Eye Blind, and Bush will play Friday night.
As this year's popular bands draw in the crowds, local musicians said that paves the way for them to break into El Paso's music scene, as well.
Selina Nevarez is the singer of the band 'Chuco Soul Project' and her group performed on the Latin stage Friday night.
"We're excited. It feels great! Any opportunity that we have to perform, especially in front of our own community, we're ecstatic," said Nevarez.
She said that Bush and Third Eye Blind coming to the Sun City puts it on the map -- and it couldn't have been better timing, she said, since El Paso is currently on the fast-track to expansion.
"I just really hope that we continue to run with this and take it as far as we possibly can because we have way too much to offer in this town to keep it to ourselves," said Nevarez.
The 2013 Downtown Street Fest kicked off Friday night and will continue until Saturday night.
