EL PASO, TX (KDBC) — Two victims, Justin Erickson and Vanessa Chacon, were the pair who perished in Wednesday morning's motorcycle crash in West El Paso, police said.
Investigative reports found that both 27-year-old victims were riding on a 1999 Yamaha motorcycle when the bike lost control on I-10 East near the Artcraft exit. Speed was believed to be a contributing factor in the crash.
Chacon, whose Facebook page showed some recent comments, had updated her status Tuesday evening to read "A beautiful night to go for a ride."
Her account was accessed by another individual Wednesday, asking for prayers from friends and family.
One of the victims was also confirmed to be a Fort Bliss soldier, however it was unclear which of the two were enlisted.
"Our military police have a strong relationship with the El Paso Police Department and one our traffic accident investigation team is assisting in the investigation," said Major Joe Buccino in an email. "If the investigation determines that this was a preventable soldier death, we will reset the signs at the installation entry and exit gates. At this time, our thoughts and prayers are with the families involved."
