U.S. Senator John Mccain is visiting Syria and meeting with Rebel leaders. Mccain is the highest-ranking elected U.S. official to visit Syria since the civil war started more than two years ago.
During the meeting, leaders of the Syrian Rebel Forces asked the United States to take the lead in supporting rebels in a "more serious manner."
While Mccain has been an outspoken advocate for a bigger U.S. role in ending the conflict, the Obama Administration and other lawmakers have warned any weapons provided to the Syrian rebels could end up in the hands of terrorists.
Mcain's visit comes ahead of another discussion about Syria, when U.S.Secretary of State John Kerry meets with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Larov in Paris.
