El Paso — El Pasoans who have not yet submitted their name ideas for El Paso’s Triple-A team are encouraged to do so before the entry period closes at midnight tomorrow night, May 24. Name ideas can be submitted by logging on to www.elpasotriplea.com/nametheteam .
“We want to make sure everyone in the community has the chance to have his or her voice heard in naming your Triple-A team, and encourage anyone who hasn’t already to submit his or her idea,” said Alan Ledford, President of MountainStar Sports Group.
“We issued a challenge to El Pasoans to surpass benchmarks set by other cities’ team naming contests, and I’m thrilled to say we’ve set a new record with more than 4,300 names submitted to date,” added Ledford.
The Name the Team contest entry period will conclude at midnight on May 24, and will be followed by voting in early June, where the top names will be voted on by the public. The winning name will be announced in mid-August. The person who submits the winning name will win an exciting grand prize, to include the opportunity to throw out a ceremonial first pitch on Opening Day in the new El Paso Ballpark, two field-level season tickets for the 2014 season, and a personalized jersey.
Some contest ground rules: you must be 18 to enter and you can only enter a name once. Kids are encouraged to participate, and can do so with the help of a parent or guardian.
The criteria for selecting a team name include name popularity based on public entries and voting, creativity, how well the name represents El Paso, and family-friendliness. While the public input is an important element of the decision-making process, MountainStar Sports Group will make the ultimate name selection based on the aforementioned criteria and Minor League Baseball approval. In the case that the final name was not submitted by the public, all those who submitted names will be entered into a drawing for the grand prize.
The final team name selected will dictate the team’s colors, mascot, and uniform, all of which will be revealed later this year after the team name is announced in mid-August.
