Las Cruces, NM (KDBC) — The 6-year-old boy who overdosed on sleeping pills in Las Cruces is now doing much better.
The boy remained in state custody while the children, youth, and families department evaluates relatives who he might be turned over to.
Court records showed the boy was also disabled and has only one eye. According to those documents, the boy was breathing one to two times per minute when emergency responders were called to help May 7.
Medical personnel told police the boy might also have had strong pain killers in his system. The boy's mother, 43-year-old Lucinda Randall was charged with intentional child abuse and has been released from the Dona Ana County detention center under court order.
