LAS CRUCES, N.M. — The New Mexico State Police Department officially dedicated it's new home in Las Cruces Thursday morning.
The nearly $6 million building at 4055 Sonoma Ranch Boulevard is considerably larger than the old rundown University Avenue location and will help police provide better services for citizens.
"There's more room for officers to do what they need to do," said NM State Police Spokesperson Sgt. Emmanuel Gutierrez.
Aside from the size difference, the building will have holding rooms and a booking area the old facility lacked.
Detainees were handcuffed to a bar bolted on the wall and were mixed with both men and women.
The building is also equipped with enough work stations and computers so officers don't have to share like they did before.
"This will house them a lot better," Gutierrez said.
The second wing of the building will house the criminal division, which was previously at an off-site location.
