Irving, T.X. — UTEP softball’s Erika Arcuri has been voted the Conference USA Newcomer of the Year league officials announced on Wednesday. The junior slugger transferred from Florida International and put together a consistent campaign in her first season donning the Orange and Blue.
Arcuri garnered multiple awards in a successful high school career, while she is the first Miner in program history to capture the newcomer of the year award.
The native of Tampa, Fla. ranked in the top 10 in hitting (.347) and hit .328 in conference only games. Arcuri crossed home plate a team-leading 26 times and drove in seven runs. She recorded 50 hits and only struck out 11 times in 144 at-bats. She also notched 16 multi-hit games, including a trio of three-hit games.
Arcuri started 45 games at centerfield and finished with a .963 fielding percentage. She recorded 70 putouts along with eight assists overall and was flawless in conference-only games with a 1.000 fielding percentage.
