El Paso, TX (KDBC) — The state's largest gang now has a foothold in El Paso. That's according to a Texas Gang Threat Assessment report recently released by the Department of Public Safety. The Tango Blast gang now has an estimated 10,000 members statewide.
It started as a prison gang and is known as EPT here in El Paso. They first showed up here in 2006. There are an estimated 200 members in the city.
The report identifies more than 2,500 gangs in texas with more than a 100,000 members. Tango Blast and the Texas Mexican Mafia are the largest. They're followed by Texas Syndicate with an estimated 4,500 members and Barrio Azteca with 3,500 members. Barrio Azteca is the most prevalent gang in El Paso.
