The UTEP softball team finished its series with East Carolina, losing, 8-0, in six innings. The Miners (12-19, 1-7 C-USA) fell behind early as the Pirates(13-21, 4-5 C-USA) scored runs in the first four innings of Saturday afternoon’s game at the Helen of Troy Softball Complex.
The Miners never got anything going as the team tallied five hits and only had runners in scoring position in the third inning. Senior Ashley Collazo and junior Miraya Montiel singled to start the third. Sophomore Tahla Wade hit a short chopper to third and beat out the throw to first to load the bases with one out. Junior Erika Arcuri hit into a fielders choice as Collazo was forced out at home and senior Kayleigh Walts popped out to short to end the inning.
The Pirates’ Sarah Christian (10-9) picked up the win as she threw all six innings, struck out four batters and had no walks. Alex Fieldhouse added two more RBI, totaling eight in the series.
The Miners travel to Orlando, Fla. to take on UCF on April 6 and 7. The first pitch of Saturday’s doubleheader is at 11 a.m. MT.
