LAS CRUCES, N.M. — The New Mexico State Aggies loaded onto a bus Thursday morning headed to California for their second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.
Dozens of fans attended the send-off celebration outside the Pan Am Center in support of their team.
"They got what it takes," said Marcus Krohn, a student and faithful Aggie fan.
New Mexico State is headed back to the NCAA tournament after winning the WAC Tournament and receiving the automatic bid for the second consecutive season.
NMSU will face St. Louis in the first round, a team that many are calling a sleeper in the tournament.
"I personally think whoever wins this game will be the sleeper to knock a few people off," said Coach Marvin Menzies.
With a solid regular season and a strong WAC Tournament the expectations for the team are high.
"The potential is unlimited," said Josh Atencio. "I believe they can make it far."
Coach Menzies thanked the crowd before the bus departed and said the team is focused ready to perform at the highest level.
"We love Las cruces and we're going to make all of you guys proud," Menzies said.
