EL PASO — A civil rights organization is demanding answers from El Paso Police after a man was shot and killed by an officer while handcuffed in police custody.
Thirty-seven-year-old Daniel Saenz died Friday after being shot outside the El Paso County Detention Facility. Police say Saenz was violently fighting with the officer.
The Paso del Norte Civil Rights Project is now demanding a thorough investigation and has filed a public information request to try and uncover more details. The group's lawyer says the shooting was highly excessive and unnecessary. They're also calling for de-escalation training for officers.
The officer's name has yet to be released.
As is standard in these cases, the District Attorney is investigating.
