A Dona Ana County Grand Jury has indicted New Mexico State senior Tyrone Watson on felony assault charges. He is accused of severely beating a fellow student.
Watson has just served a one month University invoked suspension and had been cleared to play this weekend against Denver. It's unclear if the indictment changes those plans.
"Playing time is always a coach's decision," said Tiffany Franklin, New Mexico State Assistant Media Relations Director.
Watson is accused of beating 19-year old Miguel Rascon while at a party in January. Rascon suffered several facial fractures, bruises and a cut requiring 13 stitches. Watson allegedly repeatedly punched Rascon for dancing with Watson's girlfriend.
Watson has admitted to punching Rascon but says it was only one punch and has apologized through his attorney.
