Sanford, FL — February 26th marks one year since 17-year old Trayvon Martin, an African American teenager, was shot and killed in the small town of Sanford, Florida. Trayvon Martin's family says their son was walking home from the store when he was shot by George Zimmerman, a volunteer neighborhood watchman. Zimmerman argues Martin attacked him and he shot the teen in self defense. Initially, police decided not to charge Zimmerman because of Florida's stand your ground law. The case quickly attracted national attention. Police later charged Zimmerman with second-degree murder last April. The criminal trial against Zimmerman is set to start in June, but there will be a hearing on the stand your ground portion of the case in April.
