EL PASO — Socorro City Council will discuss their proposed annexation of County land, including parts of San Elizario.
The El Paso County Attorney's office filed a lawsuit against the City of Socorro to stop the annexation process, and requested a restraining order. District Court Judge William Moody temporarily halted Socorro's annexation plans, and a hearing will be held on February 22 to decide whether the City of Socorro can proceed.
San Eilzario residents have voiced strong opposition to the plans and started exploring the option of making San Elizario its own city.
More opposition is expected at Thursday's public hearing.
