(CNN) — An ice cold soft drink could wind up costing more in Texas. A San Antonio lawmaker wants to add a tax to sugary sodas.
The tax would add one cent per ounce to the cost of a soda. The tax could add an estimated $2-billion to the state's public education fund, and promote a healthier lifestyle, at least in theory.
The same democratic lawmaker proposed a soda tax once before in 2011, but it failed.
