(CNN) — January was the second highest month on record for gun background checks, according to F-B-I records.
There were more than 2-point-4 million background checks done through the F-B-I's National Instant Criminal Background Check System ... known as N-I-C-S. The data does not indicate how many weapons were purchased.
December was the number one record setting month, with more than 2-point-7 million background checks. The numbers spiked after the school shooting massacre in Newtown, Connecticut when President Obama began the push for new gun control measures.
