FORT BLISS, TX — Major General Dana Pittard held a press conference Monday to announce that Fort Bliss had the lowest numbers of suicides in the Army in 2012.
United States Forces Command announced the Army's suicide statistics for
2012 on Friday, citing that the Army suffered 247 suicides in 2012, with 78 additional possible suicides currently under investigation.
After 12 years at war, suicide is a national epidemic for the Army.
Maj. Gen. Pittard discussed Fort Bliss' suicide prevention programs, the programs available at the Warrior Transition Unit, Fort Bliss' Wellness Fusion Campus, and the way ahead for suicide prevention in 2013.
