EL PASO — El Pasoans lined up in Downtown El Paso on Monday to pay their property taxes. Monday was the payment deadline.
The City of El Paso Tax Office moved from City Hall to the third floor of the Wells Fargo building on the corner of Kansas and Mills.
Maria Ramos, the Tax Deputy Administrator for the El Paso Tax Office, said they were prepared to deal with the extra crowds. Extra security guards controlled the lines, and escorted taxpayers from the ground level up to the third floor.
"Everything was very organized. I expected a long line, but in less than 15 minutes, I made my payment and I'm free to go," said Fernando Ramirez, a West El Paso resident.
Ramos said there are several payment options available.
"They can pay at the County Tax Office, at the Wells Fargo Bank, they can pay over the phone and they can pay over the internet if they don't want to mail in their payment," said Ramos.
Online tax payments will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. Monday at www.elpasotexas.gov/tax-office .
If you miss the deadline, you can contact the Tax Office at 915-541-4054 to make payment arrangements. A down payment of 10 percent is required for real estate, and 20 percent for personal property.
