CNN — According to a new study, kids who eat lots of fast food have an increased risk of the most common chronic illness in children. The study found of more than 500,000 kids in over 50 countries there was a link between fast food and severe asthma, hay fever and eczema.
The study published in the Journal Thorax, said kids who eat fast food three times or more a week had approximately a 30% increased risk in disease severity. It's important to make clear that this study does not say that fast food causes asthma, eczema or hay fever. It does however, suggest that it may make the severity of these conditions worse.
On the flip side, researchers found a reduction in severity for kids who ate fruit at least three times a week. Doctors say that's because fruit and vegetables are full of anti-oxidants.
