EL PASO — A two day education forum continued Saturday, with teacher unions speaking out strongly against the emphasis on mandated standardized testing.
The National Education Association is represented at the Bowie High School event, as well as Texas union members and the El Paso teacher union.
Event organizer Kathleen Staudt tells Newchannel 9 that the virtual year-long task of preparing students for a standardized test is hurting those students. "(Standardized tests) produce students who know how to answer a multiple choice question, but don't do much more than that. They don't always prepare students for a good-paying job, or for higher education. They prepare them to bubble in answers on a test."
