The new Dona Ana County District Attorney, Mark D’Antonio, met with the leaders of area law enforcement agencies and the El Paso District Attorney Thursday.
The meeting was organized by D'Antonio, who said he wants to have better communication between counties and states in the hopes of making it easier to pursue criminals crossing state lines.
D'Antonio said the discussion centered around the needs of each agency and office and how they can work together to make the region safer.
"No judicial agency or law enforcement agency can work independently of each other. We have to combine forces and let every criminal know there will be no hiding space not in El Paso and not anywhere near Las Cruces or Dona Ana County," D’Antonio said.
He and the other agencies also met with representatives from the Mexican Attorney General’s office. They talked about the expediting the process of extraditing criminals who run and hide across the border. D'antonio said the meeting was very productive and he hopes to continue to build relationships with all neighboring agencies.
