Katherine Webb is letting broadcaster Brent Musburger off the hook, and asking others to give him the benefit of a doubt.
Webb, a recent Miss Alabama USA and the girlfriend of University of Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron, drew the attention of ESPN cameras during Alabama's BSC Championship victory over Notre Dame on Monday night. Musburger repeatedly and effusively commented on her appearance, and cameras continued to show her periodically throughout the game.
Musburger, 73, has been the subject of disdain and even ridicule since then, and has been described as "creepy" in many social media. ESPN also lightly chastised him in a statement.
But Webb told Matt Lauer on NBC's Today show that if Musburger had "said something along the lines of that we were hot or sexy, or made any derogatory statements like that, that would have been different..But the fact that he said we were beautiful and gorgeous, I don't see why any woman wouldn't be flattered by that. I think they've been a little bit unfair to him, and so I don't take any offense to it at all."
