Canutillo ISD's Board of Trustees picked Annette Brigham as the district's new interim superintendent. She currently serves as the district's associate superintendent and chief of staff.
Colleagues and community members shared hugs with Brigham after the Board made their announcement. Brigham began her career as a technology teacher at Canutillo High School back in 1987. She has served as principal of Childress Elementary and Alderete Middle School. She was appointed associate superintendent and chief of staff this summer.
Brigham says she looks forward to serving as interim superintendent. "What we're going to do is start work right away on January 7th. I'll be in here probably starting tomorrow. I have the full confidence of the Board and in myself so we're just going to move forward and educate children," she said.
"Canutillo has been doing great things before Dr. Murphy got here and we're going to continue to doing great things after," said Board President, Armando Rodriguez.
The Canutillo Board of Trustees said Brigham is an excellent choice and needs no training because she is deeply familiar with the community and the students.
Trustees began searching for a new superintendent earlier this month when the district decided to part ways with Superintendent Damon Murphy amidst a TEA investigation and cheating allegations.
The board will begin the process of looking for a permanent superintendent by collecting proposals from outside consulting firms. They have set a budget for the search at $50,000 or less.
