Dick's Sporting Goods is pulling certain kinds of semi-automatic rifles off its shelves nationwide.
In a statement to CNN, the store says it's also removing all guns from its store nearest to Newtown, Connecticut.
The retailer announced the decision in a statement to the media Tuesday morning.
"We are extremely saddened by the unspeakable tragedy that occurred last week in Newtown, CT, and our hearts go out to the victims and their families, and to the entire community. Out of respect for the victims and their families, during this time of national mourning we have removed all guns from sale and from display in our store nearest to Newtown and suspended the sale of modern sporting rifles in all of our stores chainwide."
20 kids and six adults died at the hands of a gunman carrying an assault rifle and handguns.
It did not say how long its ban on gun sales will last. There are more than 500 Dick's locations in 44 states, according the company website.
