EL PASO — For a fourth consecutive year, an increasing number of Americans will brave the highways this holiday season. AAA says more than 93 million people will travel more than 50 miles, and most of them by car. Nationally the average price of regular unleaded gasoline is down about 12 cents from a month ago, and AAA a predicts those prices will keep dropping. However, AAA says the money saved in gas will likely get spent on other travel related costs like car rentals.
The trend, however, doesn't seem to be impacting consumers' demand to spread a little holiday cheer away from home this year. AAA says median spending on holiday travel is also expected to increase this year by about six percent, because we're approaching a busy travel period. AAA recommends planning ahead, taking advantage of smart phone applications that assist with travel.
