EL PASO — The University of Texas at El Paso will present 200 area high school seniors with merit scholarships in the next week as part of its UTEP Scholars Excellence Program.
UTEP's Office of Scholarships will visit more than 30 El Paso area high schools beginning Dec. 10 to surprise future Miners with the news that they have received a merit scholarship to attend UTEP.
Recipients are selected based on their scholastic aptitude test scores, grade point average, student ranking and leadership skills.
The scholarships are four-year commitments that total more than $2.8 million.
UTEP's Office of Scholarships received more than 4,200 scholarship applications, its highest number of applications to date, making it a very competitive process.
