EL PASO, TX — At today's county commissioners meeting, a vote was scheduled on a 2 million dollar bid to replace older Sheriff's Department vehicles. The winning bid up for the vote was from a dealership in Tarrant County, in the Fort Worth area. A local dealership also pursued that 2 million dollar contract, and there was only 5 hundred dollars separating the two bids. But, the procedure currently used to select bids does not favor local business and take into consideration the positive economic impact of keeping money in the county.
Commissioners elected to postpone a decision on that 2 million dollar contract. Coincidentally, a later item on the agenda was a plan to reconsider the procedure the county follows in awarding contracts to favor local business. The motion was unanimously approved.
