UTEP’s Risper Kimaiyo was named to the 2012 Conference USA All-Academic Cross Country team on Monday.
With a 3.56 GPA, Kimaiyo is pursuing a degree in nursing. The senior most recently claimed her third consecutive crown at the NCAA Mountain Region Championship. The three-time All-American clocked in a time of 20:10.8 in the women’s 6K race earning her All-Region honors for her performance.
Kimaiyo has proven to be force on the course, as she won her third individual medalist honor at the Conference USA Championship. The distance runner crossed the finish line with a personal-best of 16:42.8 in the 5K run. Kimaiyo capped off her stellar C-USA career by being named Outstanding Senior of the Meet.
During the regular season, the senior posted two top-finishes at the Lori Fitzgerald and Kachina Classic meets. She took second place at the NCAA Pre-National meet with a season-best time of 19:46 in the 6K. Kimaiyo was named C-USA Athlete of the Week four times this season and concluded her career with a total of 15 honors.
A total of 15 student-athletes have been named to the 2012 Conference USA All-Academic Cross Country Teams, as selected by the league's sports information directors for the sport. The all-academic teams consist of student-athletes who have earned a 3.2 cumulative grade point average or better and are a key member on their team.
