NEW YORK — El Paso Electric crews continue to help restore power in New York City. Hurricane Sandy caused massive power outages after last week's destructive storm. Several El Paso electric crews and equipment are in New York to assist Consolidated Edison (Con Edison) restore power to its customers. Con Edison of New York provides electricity to nearly 3.3 million customers. EPE crews say people in New York are frustrated due to the lack of electricity. New Yorkers say it's taken a back seat to sewage and clean-up efforts. Many people in Manhattan are still without power. Schools were closed today for voting but many people still turned out to vote. In fact, the polling sites in Queens used generators.
