EL PASO — The cause of an accidental apartment fire in East El Paso rermains under investigation.
El Paso Firefighters responded to the La Estancia Apartments on Viscount at 10:20 p.m. Thursday.
According to George De La Torre, Spokesperson for the El Paso Fire Department, the fire started on the porch of a first floor apartment, then spread to the balcony of the apartment above it.
Three people inside the lower level apartment, and four people inside the second floor apartment escaped safely.
De La Torre said there was smoke damage to the kitchen and living room in both apartment units.
The residents in both apartments were not able to spend the night in their apartments.
"We do currently have the owners from the first apartment with the Red Cross and they'll be assisting them, and we also evacuated the other two units just for a precaution, making sure that the C-O levels are safe enough for them to return," said De La Torre.
Damages are estimated at $40,000 total for both units.
