CANUTILLO, TX — The newest campus of the Canutillo Independent School District will be named Congressman Silvestre and Carolina Reyes School.
The CISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously Monday night.
Trustees decided to honor Congressman Reyes and his wife for a long list of accomplishments and their tireless work to represent the values of the Canutillo community.
One of Reyes' daughters was at the meeting and said she's extremely proud.
"They've dedicated over 40 years of their life as public servants. They have volunteered. My mother was a volunteer most of her life. My dad as a public servant in Border Patrol, served on the school board here in Canutillo when he was young and then of course 16 years in Congress,” said Monica Reyes. "He always had his heart in Canutillo and so I think it's well deserved."
The board also voted to name the football stadium at the school as Veteran's Memorial Field in honor of those Canutillo residents who have served in the U.S. military.
The new school, which will have grades pre-kindergarten through eighth, is scheduled to open for classes during the 2014-2015 school year.
