The number of Americans filing first-time applications for unemployment benefits fell last week, returning to a level that shows the labor market is making limited progress.
Jobless claims decreased by 23,000 to 369,000 in the week ended Oct. 20 from a revised 392,000 the prior period.
That's according to the Labor Department.
The initial claims number has bounced around for the last five weeks, pointing to little improvement in the job market since September.
About 3-point-3-million Americans continued to file for their second week of unemployment benefits in the week ended October 13, the most recent data available.
