El Paso — The Mountain Star Sports Group is expected to make an announcement today regarding the pending sale of the Tucson Padres. The statement from the group says a press conference will be held later this afternoon and will include Pacific Coast League President, Branch Rickey.
News of the deal have had mixed reaction from residents. Some feel the stadium is a waste of money while other believe it will generate much revenue for El Paso. In June City Council approved plans to build a $50 million ballpark if the group purchased a AAA minor league baseball team. Three months later, the PCL approved the purchase and relocation of the Tucson Padres to Mountain Star Group.
Representatives have not confirmed if the sale of the AAA affiliate of the San Diego Padres has been finalized.
