After helping UTEP post a pair of important home victories, junior midfield Tori Martyn has been chosen as the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week.
Martyn scored three times while also adding an assist to help lead the Miners to victories against UAB (3-2, 10/5/12) and nationally-ranked Memphis (10/7/12).
Prior to the weekend, Martyn hadn’t scored this season but that all changed against starting against UAB.
Just three minutes into the contest, Martyn afforded UTEP a 1-0 lead by scoring off a header. She used a perfectly-timed run to put herself into prime position, elevated above the defense and hammered home the header.
Martyn then added an assist after getting involved in a scramble in the box in the eventual match winner.
She made her presence felt in a big way against Memphis, scoring twice on headers. After a scoreless first half, Martyn tallied twice off headers in the box from feeds on corner kicks by Tess Hall.
The Miners will conclude their four-match home stand with a pair of contests in the upcoming weekend. UTEP will play host to Southern Miss at 7 p.m. MT Friday before challenging No. 8 UCF at 12 p.m. MT Sunday, Oct. 14.
