The White House became the "Pink House" in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month.
Obama signed a proclamation at the beginning of the month designating October as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The color change at the White House marks an annual tradition first started under the Bush administration in 2008 and continued under Obama.
Last year alone the American Cancer Society estimated that over 230,000 women were diagnosed with breast cancer. In the president’s proclamation, the White House estimated that over 200,000 women would be diagnosed with the disease in 2012.
