UTEP football’s Autrey Golden was named the C-USA Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday announced league officials. This is the first honor for Golden in this season and the third for the UTEP squad.
Golden had five returns for 157 yards against East Carolina. He posted a 96-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter, the seventh-longest return in school history and the longest by a UTEP player since 2007.
The 157 kickoff return yards for Golden are the most by a UTEP player since Vernon Frazier had 177 against Houston last season. Golden’s kickoff return was the longest by a UTEP freshman since Howard Jackson had a 100-yard return in the final game of the 2001 season against Nevada.
Golden leads the squad in kickoff returns (nine), kickoff return yards (269) and average (29.9).
