LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Foreclosures are on the rise in New Mexico and Dona Ana County is not far behind according to a local non-profit group working to raise awareness for homeowners.
Café held a conference at Las Cruces City Hall Thursday to inform homeowners on their options if they are struggling with their payments.
"There are programs for people that are not in trouble, but that might have lost their jobs or are underemployed and are on time on their payments they can actually get a modification as well," said Katy Salazar who went through foreclosure proceedings.
Dona Ana County has already had more than 600 new filings.
During the conference the main emphasis was get help early before it's too late.
