EL PASO — The El Paso Independent School Board appoints a new interim superintendent.
Vernon Butler is a former superintendent with Anthony ISD and served as interim superintendent of Ysleta ISD.
Butler will replace Ken George who was appointed two weeks ago after Dr. Terri Jordan stepped down citing family responsibilities.
Board President Isela Castañon-Williams said George was only temporary because he had other obligations.
George said he believes the district is headed in the right direction.
"I think the district is going in the right direction. they're working on things. They're trying to get things going. They have some difficulties with different issues so I think they're heading in the right direction," said former Interim Superintendent Ken George.
Castañon-Williams said Butler is the best to fill the position until the district can find a permanent superintendent.
"Mr. Butler has done outstanding work in very difficult situations at Bellaire High School in the past that required a great deal of thought and making hard decisions and I feel he is the kinda interim superintendent that we need right now," said Castañon-Williams.
Butler will begin with the district on Monday.
