FORT BLISS — President Obama will touch down at Fort Bliss about 11:30 a.m. Friday. During his third visit to the Sun City, President Obama will visit for only a couple of hours. He's scheduled to speak with service members and their families during a roundtable discussion.
Major General Dana Pittard expects the President will discuss the health of the military and Fort Bliss' low suicide rate, as well as government budget cuts, also known as sequestrian.
"The President will probably address the issue of sequestration and so we'll have to wait and see what he says but everybody will be effected if sequestration actually goes through and so we're hoping it doesn't go through but if it does go through there will be some massive cuts to our defense budget that we'll all have to prepare for," said Major General Pittard.
None of the President's visit is open to the public. Local 4 News will have live coverage of the entire visit starting Friday at 11:30 a.m.
We'll have the President's remarks to troops, scheduled for 12:45 p.m. He'll leave El Paso at about 1:30 p.m.
