The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association has named the UTEP women’s cross country team a 2011 Division I All-Academic team on Monday morning.
The miners achieved a cumulative team GPA of 3.25 and finished 14th at the NCAA Mountain Regional.
Leading the squad is Risper Kimaiyo, who was named to the 2011 USTFCCCA All-Academic cross country team. The All-American has earned four consecutive USTFCCCA All-Academic honors as a Miner.
A total of 205 institutions represent 30 conferences that compose the group. UTEP was one of 10 Conference USA schools named an all-academic team. ECU, Marshall, Rice, SMU, Tulane, UAB, Memphis, Southern Miss and Tulsa were the other C-USA schools honored.
To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and have started at least five runners at their respective NCAA regional championship.
