The New Mexico State volleyball team started the Hotel Encanto Classic with a sweep over Grambling State 25-14, 25-16, 25-16 at the Pan American Center, Friday, Sept. 2.
NM State had a balanced attack as 14 players saw playing time. The offense played efficiently hitting .314 in the match while the NM State defense held GSU to a .025 hitting percentage. Senior middle hitter Kelsey Brennan led the Aggie attack with nine kills, while freshmen Meredith Hays and Jocelyn Leichner added seven kills each.
"We were able to get some different looks this morning and you have to give credit to Grambling for continuing to play hard throughout the match," head coach Mike Jordan said.
NM State posted 49 kills as a team compared to the Tigers 19 with sophomore middle hitter Desiree Scott chipping in with seven and five from sophomore Stephanie Ziegler. Freshman Gwen Murphy and Michelle Kuester added five kills of their own.
Tiara McIver led Grambling with six kills and hit .190 on the match but Grambling hit just .025 as a team.
The Aggies are back in action tonight as they host Arkansas-Little Rock at 7:00 p.m. in the Pan American Center.
