Basketball in the Barrio is back in El Paso. The three day camp gives kids of all ages a chance to hone their skills on the court. More than just basketball, participants recieve learning sessions, art classes, as well as a talk from a guest speaker. This years guest speaker was legendary Olympic bronze medalist John Carlos. Carlos famous for his black power salute on the Olympic podium caused much political controversy during the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City.
Carlos shared his thoughts on the event and the impact that it has on the kids.
"I saw how interested they were in education. I think that's the foundation of life. I think education is like food for life. If you don't eat food you die. If you don't get education you wish you were dead."
The camp continues through Sunday.
