There has been a shortage of truck drivers for a long time. When I say drivers, I mean qualified people. Many people that know how to drive trucks cannot get a job because they either have a bad driving record or can't pass a drug test or both. Insurance companies and the DOT grounds those types of drivers so we wind up with people driving trucks that have a clean record and can pass a drug test, but really don't know how to drive a truck. Oil field jobs pay much more but you have to relocate.
