Clint, TX — A group of eight people were ending an afternoon of off-road driving at the popular Clint Pit when their full-size SUV rolled over repeatedly to the bottom of the pit, killing a 10-year-old girl.
The accident happened about 5:30 Sunday evening.
"One vehicle leaving the pit area started coming up one of the trails, didn't make it up and started rolling back and it rolled over several times," said Sheriff's Deputy Manny Marquez
Two boys, a girl, and a man were taken to University Medical Center, but the 10-year old child died at the scene.
Investigators say the girl's parents were also in the SUV.
It's unknown if anyone was wearing a seatbelt restraint. Seatbelts are not required by law on private space.
"If they (children) are old enough, secure them in a seat belt if not child safety seats or booster chairs, whatever is required to keep them safe," Marquez said.
Deputies remained at the Clint Pit late Sunday to investigate what caused the fatal rollover.
