I was reading some of the posted comments yesterday and they do in fact reflect the feelings of the teachers and administrators. It's hard to start off the year when you have to attend trainings or convocations that cannot hold the attention of its audience. We are to learn from these speakers and trainers how to teach children with shorter attention spans than us and they can not even keep our attention. Dr. Z is more attentive to promoting his band than to the actual needs of his employees.
At least their was air conditioning at the Don. Many of the area conferences for the District on Tuesday were full of disappointed teachers who were herded into overcrowded facilities that were extremely hot and unbearable. Many of the messages provided by guest speakers were lost because of the conditions. Add this cost to the $27,000 spent on the district convocation today, plus Saturday's dismal welcome back rally and that could have been a teacher's salary at an overcrowded school.
Not only was the convocation costly, but it had nothing to do with district goals. The keynote speaker mentioned that if you want to improve education you need gym clothes in the clothes, you need to start later in the day, and students need naps. These are things that go against the superintendent's protocols. First of all teachers cannot even wear jeans, and the bottom line with Dr. Z is money. Today was nothing but a chance for him to play "Wayne Newton" at the expense of our taxes.
