CHARLOTTE, NC — Today's moms are spending more time in labor than their own mothers did decades ago!
Researchers at the National Institutes of Health compared labor times of childbearing women in the 1960's to modern moms.
The mothers of today labor longer than their predecessors. Researchers say it's because modern women are much heavier and older when they get pregnant.
Epidurals are more common now, and also tend to slow down labor.
Researchers say those factors don't account for the longer labor completely, and say there may be something about how deliveries are performed today. They are calling for more research.
