El Paso - NewsChannel 9 talked with some people here in the Borderland who witnessed the gunfire. They tell us they only heard a few shots at first, but within minutes rounds upon rounds of shots came flying.
According to Ray Campos who saw the shootout unfold on the balcony of his home, he came outside and saw Federales careening around a corner near a building on the Mexican side of the border. Moments later he saw gunshots coming from Juarez. "I was just walking out of my house and I heard a bunch of gunshots...walked back in and slowly came out to see a big gun battle going on in the hills of Juarez and it probably went on for 45 minutes to an hour," says Campos.
"I just saw a whole bunch of federales and people laying around. I stopped my car being a nosy person and saw a bunch of people in a median not doing anything just kind of laying there," said Adrain Guerrero, a witness who was driving on I-10 East.
Guerrerro says he is very afraid of the violence going on in our Sister City now having a firsthand account. He says it's scary to think how far bullets from those weapons can travel.
